This position is located Emergency Department of the Red Lake Service Unit (RLSU), located in Red Lake, MN. The purpose of this position is to manage, supervise, coordinate and evaluate the Emergency Department (ED). The incumbent plans, develops, coordinates, and evaluates a comprehensive ED for the RLSU. The goal is to refine and strengthen the ED to respond to the emergent needs of the service unit and the community.

Duties

  • Stabilizing patients with major trauma or critical medical conditions. The physician will be required to appropriately judge whether these patients would be best cared for by admission at the service unit versus transfer to a higher level care facility. Admitting patients to the service unit when appropriate, writing admission histories, physical exams, and orders according to IHS format. Provides emergency medical care on a regular and ongoing basis to patients seen in the department.
  • Ensures that the ED is in compliance with all Joint Commission, CMS and EMTALA laws, regulations and standards. Ensures EMS compliance with all applicable quality and compliance standards and policies. Participates in hospital quality improvement projects and committees as assigned. Displays strong leadership and communicates effectively through written, oral and interpersonal skills. Communicates effectively with patients.
  • Provides direct supervision of the ED staff. The incumbent plans work to be accomplished by subordinates and prepares schedules for completion of work; assigns work to subordinates based on priorities and capabilities of employees; evaluates work performance of subordinates; advise or counsel employees on work and administrative matters; interview candidates for positions, recommend appointment, promotion, or reassignment to such positions; hear and resolve complaints from employees; effects minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands; identify training needs of employees; approves leave, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:

GS-15 - 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. Examples of experience include: Provides medical oversight of an Emergency Department directing staff and programs. Ensures the ED is in compliance with accreditation standards and requirements. Stabilizes and examines patients to determine seriousness of illness or trauma, prescribes and carries out appropriate therapy. Evaluates work performance of employees and interviews candidates for positions.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:
Must possess an active Board Certification or be Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine.

Time In Grade

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
